This Summer's 5 Hottest Cell Phones

As the summer time roles around, cellphone makers save their best hardware for this time of the year.  They break out all the bells and whistles looking to prove to you that their gadget is the best of them all.

Here are five of the hottest phones of the summer that will leave you second guessing your current cellphone unless you have one from this list already. Enjoy.

  1. Apple iPhone 3GS

  2. Looking for the do-it-all cellphone? The iPhone 3G S has certainly been the king of the summer cellphone scene. This magnificent work of technology has continued to evolve into the most versatile phone out to date. The iPhone 3GS comes packed with loads of applications, and built-in GPS linked maps. The iPhone 3GS continued to draw a crowd on opening day, as did all the prior versions of the iPhone. Speed is the X factor that powers the iPhone 3GS, with apps launched in a blink of an eye, and web pages loading faster than ever on the Safari browser. If you are looking for a hand held gaming console built into a phone, well look no further. The iPhone 3GS has this sector covered with some of the most advanced graphics ever seen on a cell phone. When it comes to capturing media, the iPhone 3GS has upped the ante from the original iPhone and now allows video capture and a 3 megapixel camera. The enhanced voice control on the iPhone 3GS has allowed blind people to become in touch with their cell phones once again, and one blind person even became a photographer due to the voice controlled picture capabilities the iPhone 3GS possesses. Overall, the iPhone 3GS lets you have the capabilities of a small computer in the palm of your hand, making it one of the most popular phones of the summer.

  3. Palm Pre

No one ever said putting pressure on the iPhone’s dominate grip on society would be easy, however the Palm Pre has managed to steal a little bit of Apple’s limelight. The Palm Pre attempts to capture a user within the first few seconds of touching the device. It has a nicely designed case that fits comfortably in the palm of your hand, unlike some of the other more square types we’ve all grown accustomed with. The Pre slides open to reveal a nicely crafted QWERTY keyboard for those who are touch challenged and would prefer buttons. Next to the multimedia section, you will notice the Pre has a nice 3.2 megapixel camera with the ability to create pretty crisp images, making it competitive among other cell phone cameras. However, the Pre lacks video, which could upset those who love making videos with their cellphone and capturing all those wonderful summertime memories.

The Pre I guess you could say is a little “Pre”-iPhone when it comes to application side of things. While lacking an abundance of choices in the arena of applications, the Pre does well by giving you the essentials. However, I feel this area will become more developed once the kinks get worked out within Palm’s webOS. The Pre has made for an interesting cellphone competition this summer, and looks to turn the “heat” up on Apple’s wonderchild.

  4. Blackberry Tour
  5. The Blackberry lineup is almost like the Burberry clothing designer, a timeless classic. While others innovate and sample with new flashy designs and fancy touch screens, the Blackberry Tour sticks to what makes Blackberry, well, Blackberry.  The Tour has a quick, responsive QWERTY keyboard that is sure to keep the orders flowing from the top of the corporate food chain, to the loneliest teenager just trying to stay in the loop. Blackberry has always been a fan favorite of the corporate world.  CEOs make billion dollar deals on the Blackberry, and they expect nothing less than excellence when using the device. The Tour does not disappoint. Hence the name “Tour”, it comes packed with world phone capabilities, so there is no need to buy a new cell phone when you take your next vacation halfway across the world. As always, the Tour comes with those all to handy turn-by-turn GPS directions that can get you to that power lunch or dinner date with ease.

The Tour makes looking at a cellphone screen a pleasure, when you realize how crisp and bright the screen remains after hours of usage. The Tour applications best the Pre’s, but still falls a little short when comparing to the iPhone. In the multimedia arena it features a 3.2 megapixel camera that has the power to do video also, this puts it one ahead both the Pre and iPhone when it comes to multimedia. So if your looking for classic look with mind blowing features, the Tour will have you talking from Chicago to Sydney with ease.

  6. Nokia N97
  7. nokia_n97

While Nokia maybe losing ground daily to the likes of Apple, Blackberry, and Palm it still remains a major player in the cellphone community.  It still can run on a  3.5G network, and boast a powerful 5megapixel camera that puts it one step ahead when it comes to picture quality when comparing it to your average smart phone.  Popularity in the U.S. might be slowing for Nokia, however elsewhere in the world, the phone is seen as a viable option for the hottest communication available.  The N97 allows you to watch television on your phone, and comes with an interesting Ovi Store.  The massive 3.5 inch screen makes movies and photos a joy to view on the go.  Like most smart phones now days the N97 comes with a touch screen that allows you to interact by touch, and still has the slide out keyboard for those that prefer the feel of buttons under their fingers.

The Nokia N97 has the ability to offer up high quality games and comes with a Guitar Rock Tour game.  The N97 might be as close as you can get to holding a PSP in your hands as a cellphone, where as the iPhone offers no buttons that gamers seem to thrive on.  The N97 gives you options and with a screen that big and nice who can resist.  Next time you pull out your N97 don’t worry you will still turn a few heads.

  8. T-Mobile myTouch (AKA the HTC Magic)
  9. Once again Google is back with their competition for the iPhone with an HTC built phone, formerly refferred to as the HTC Magic. Like a highly anticipated sequel of a box office hit, the myTouch looks to make a few waves in the cellphone competition.  Powered by Google’s ever growing and powerful Android software, the myTouch is sure to grab the attention of those looking to break free from the restricted confines of Apple.  With competitive pricing and options to customize galore, the myTouch is sure to make a statement.  Showing off its 3.2inch screen and ability to download over 5,000 applications.  The myTouch allows you to personalize your home screen with shortcuts almost like those of a PC.  It has the ability to play music, shoot photos and video, and one-touch Google searching.  If having one of the hottest phones of the summer is your thing, then the myTouch might just be accessory you need to push you to the next level.

So with all that free time on your hands this summer be sure to try out one of these cellphones.  Exploring the latest and greatest that these cellphones have to offer.  This is only the beginning of an era that will soon become the norm among cellphone makers everywhere.
