Google voice-based search for mobile users comes to India

Just say it and your mobile would search it. Search giant Google has launched a voice based search for mobile (earlier seen on iPhone, and the Yahoo app for iPhone). Which means that you no longer have to click on search button but just talk to your phone and have your search results displayed.

Targeting the mobile users, Google believes their numbers have crossed the number of computer users. “Mobiles (more than 400 million) outnumber the personal computers (PCs — slightly over 30 million) concentration in India. A big part of the population accessing internet going ahead would do so on a mobile handset and so we need to offer enriching experience to these users,” says Google India Head of products Vinay Goel.

With the GPRS rates going down and easy availability of internet users on mobile, Google believes that the search and social networking on mobile would be larger than that of computer users.

The voice-based search is currently launched for Blackberry users in India and would expand to other phones soon. Developed by Indian programmers, the voice-based search supports the Indian accent. “This feature has been developed by the India team and takes into account the Indian accent. Currently the facility is available only to Blackberry cellphone users in India but we hope to extend this to other handsets by the end of the year,” Goel said.

Looks like the mobile search just got more convenient, specially for those who do not have a QWERTY keyboard on their cellphones.Similar Posts:
