Synaptics announced the launch of a 10-finger touchscreen which is bound to push the touch interface in mobile phones to a whole new level. The California based company calls the innovative product as ClearPad 3000. Tracking upto 10 simultaneous fingers, the touchscreen would allow much complex gestures to be decoded by the devices on which it is installed.

“By enabling more devices to have multi-finger gesture capabilities, our premium ClearPad 3000 Series opens the door for innovative software developers to push the edges of the user interface envelope by creating exciting new classes of applications — such as multi-user gaming — not possible before, giving OEMs greater flexibility to differentiate their products,”said Tom Tiernan, Synaptics president and COO.

Synaptics already had developed a two-finger touchscreen which is speculated to be what Apple is using in iPhone. T-mobiles G1 by HTC and manufacturers like Samsung and LG have confirmed the use of two-finger touchscreen by Synaptics, called ClearPad 2000.

The 0.3mm thick ClearPad 3000 has an accuracy of +/- 1mm and is available in sizes upto 8″ diagonally. The touchscreen delivers 48 sensing channel with advanced power management. The screen uses capacitive sensors which delivers higher accuracy, though they cannot be used with a stylus.

The company is planning to ship engineering samples by November 2009. So, the time doesn’t seem very far when our phone would keep all our 10 fingers engaged.
