The Novo Minoru is The World's First 3D Webcam

Novo Minoru

Think that built-in camera in your Mac is good enough? Think again. The Minoru from Novo is a new webcam that creates stereographic images and even video.

The Minoru works like any other webcam, attach it via USB and you can chat using your favorite messaging client or upload videos to YouTube. But, that’s where the similarities end. The Minoru, which means “reality” in Japanese, uses two cameras spaced apart at roughly the same difference as your eyes. It then takes the images from both cameras and superimposes each image over the other, producing the familiar red and blue images of 3D images from childhood. To view the result in 3D you’ll need a pair of special glasses (they include five pairs with your purchase,) but the Minoru can function as a standard webcam that records at 800 × 600 and even has a built-in microphone. At $89, this could be a fun toy to play with.
