Yahoo, once a giant in the online world, is now having to compete with new startups and is even trying to copy them. Taking on the latest trend of the younger generation, Yahoo has launched a microblogging website called “Yahoo MeMe”.
The Twitter-like service is a multilingual microblog. Currently the service is only available on an invitation basis. Interested users just need to submit their e-mail id at the Yahoo MeMe website and wait for their invitations to be delivered to their inboxes.
The site was initially introduced in Spanish and Portuguese earlier. It is now also available in English.
After receiving the invitation, the user gets an empty blog for sharing text, music, videos and pictures. Space for a 100-word profile description is available along with an avatar. Comments are also allowed after each post. A search option on the site can be used for finding other users present in Yahoo’s microblog network.
Another interesting feature is the Yahoo ‘Know Your Mojo’. This tool allows you to analyze what kind of social “mojo” or charm you might have.
The big question that remains is whether Yahoo MeMe will beat Twitter. But for now this website looks interesting. Definitely worth a try.
