So the poor villagers wont have to walk 20miles to charge their cellphones? you can now use the abundant energy from the Sun to charge your mobile phones. Samsung’s Guru E1107 a.k.a. “Solar Guru” can be charged anywhere using the solar energy. Samsung’s Solar Guru has been introduced in India as a part of its global launch.

The phone was launched by Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Minister of New and renewable energy and J.S. Shin, President and CEO, Samsung South West Asia. It was introduced to the world at an event organised by Samsung in Noida.

"The Solar Guru has been developed keeping in mind the needs of Indian consumers, especially customers residing in areas where the electric supply is unstable, so that the consumers can rely on solar charging to remain connected." said Mr. Shin at the launch.

If you live in a rural area and have some power shortage, you can now use the Solar energy to charge your handset alongwith taking in all those Vitamin D from the Sun. An hour of solar charging would give you a talktime upto 10min. Using the solar energy would also help you to save some electricity and a few bucks on your electricity bill.

"With Samsung's cutting edge technology and consumer-oriented strategy, I believe the Solar Guru is the perfect fit for the Indian consumer – not only because it is solar powered, but because it has a host of customized features , especially developed keeping in mind the needs of Indian consumers" states Mr.Sunil Dutt, Country Head , Samsung Mobile Division.

Solar Guru sports features like FM radio, MP3 ringtones, embedded games along-with a torchlight. The phone also includes Mobile Tracker, which sends alert when the SIM card has been changed. Mobile Tracker also sends SOS alerts automatically in case of an emergency. Solar Guru features Mobile Prayer specially for Indian markets which include prayers and wallpapers of different religions prevailing in India.

After India, Solar Guru will be launched in other global markets including Europe, Southeast Asia, Southwest Asia, and Latin America in June 2009.

At Rs.2799, it looks like an easy price that can be paid for getting environment friendly. Moreover, your phone can now get charged from the Sun while you are busy in getting that tan at the beach.
