OmniVision – the company that supplies the cameras for your iPhone 3G and 3GS and Blackberry Storm / Curve has unveiled its new OV14825 14.6 megapixel image sensor specially built for mobiles. This thing will empower the future smartphones to shoot 1080p videos at 60 fps, now thats some quality. For comparison sake the 3GS does 30fps VGA recording and is already the most popular video camera for YouTube uploads.
Using a 1.4-micron OmniBSI pixel architecture the 1/2.33-inch sensor is capable of performing well in low light conditions and at the same time consumes lesser battery battery power keeping in mind the mobile usage.
So is this what Steve Jobs is planning for the iPhone 5th generation?
