Secured by brushed metallic or beige epoxy casing the next-gen memory cards unveiled by Samsung are made with the view of 2012 in mind . These CF / SD cards can withstand 1.6 tons of weight, can go underwater for 24hours and even withstand magnetic force upto 13 times more than what we see in a home theater system. And at the same time remain compatible with standard memory card slots.
The SD card (& microSD) are available in 4,8 and 16GB versions & can read at speeds ranging 17MB/s. On the other hand the CF cards can do 45MB/s read speeds and available in 4 or 8GB. The cards are immediately available in France, Germany and UK. Global roll-out should follow in the coming days.
Samsung is a major player int he NAND flash memory segment and apart from providing white-label digital memory cards to leading tech cos, it now plans to strengthen its foothold in the retail market for memory cards which is said to be as big as $12 billion annually.
Note: The press release excludes the CF cards from water-proof category.
