Remember the Asus EEE keyboard PC? After almost an year of its display in CES ‘09, Asus seems to still be busy working on it. Apparently Asus is not the only company working on such a concept. Another company, named NorhTec, have unveiled a keyboard PC, dubbed the “Gecko Surfboard”. A video of the keyboard PC is available after the break.

The Surfboard crams an x86 compatible system under a full sized QWERTY keyboard. The processor, graphics, audio and the memory systems are all present under the keyboard, which runs cool enough to avoid the use of a cooling fan. The specifications of the Surfboard are as follows:

  • 1Ghz Vortex86MX system-on-a-chip
  • Runs Windows XP, Linux, or Windows CE
  • 512MB DDR2 RAM
  • SD/SDHC card support
  • Optional 2.5″ hard drive storage
  • VGA and composite video out
  • 2 x USB 2.0 ports
  • 10/100 Ethernet
  • Optional 802.11 b/g and/or 3G WiFi

The NorhTec Gecko Surfboard will cost $99 for the Linux version, and $149 for the Windows version. The optional WiFi and 2.5″ hard drive would further add to the cost. This keyboard PC is said to be available for sale in Jan 2010.
